Frequently Asked Questions

How do I contact The Swirl Cakes?

Email us at bethany@theswirlcakes.com

We strive to respond to messages as quickly as possible, excluding Sundays and holidays. Our fastest responses are by email as phone calls are usually returned after 5 PM. Order details will be finalized through email.

How far in advance do I need to order?

All items are made fresh to order – at least one week notice for orders is necessary. We do get booked up in advance, so please order as far in advance as possible to ensure availability. We recommend booking at least 6-8 weeks in advance.

What if I'm not sure what I want to order?

No problem! Whether you have a few pictures of items you like or no idea at all, it's very common for us to offer suggestions and send a few options to choose from for your event. Just contact us with your event details and we will work with you to find the perfect look, flavor, and price for your unique event.

What forms of payment do you accept? Do I need to pay a deposit?

Cash, checks made out to The Swirl Cakes, and major credit cards. To hold your date, a deposit of 50% of the total amount is due at the time of booking (via PayPal invoice) and the other half is due upon delivery (cash, checks made out to The Swirl Cakes, major credit cards). We don’t require full payment in advance, but if you’d like to handle payment in advance, we can invoice you via PayPal. All orders must be paid in full upon delivery. Because we make everything from scratch and to order, there is a $50 minimum on all orders. Wedding cakes are contracted separately. Please contact us for more information.

Do you have a retail location? Do you deliver?

The Swirl Cakes is a home-based, licensed business and all items are made fresh to order. Orders are available for pickup from our Clemmons (North Davidson County) location on Saturday mornings or at another scheduled time. Pickup details will be worked out at the time of your order. Delivery is available for a fee. All wedding cakes and tiered cakes over two tiers must be delivered and set up at the final destination.

Can you recreate sports team logos and mascots, cartoon characters, business logos, etc?

Characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, etc. can often be printed on edible images for a royalty fee. Otherwise, we  must have advance written permission from the copyright owner of the specific sports team, business, etc. prior to recreating a specific image. If we can’t get permission, we can certainly still tie a cake into your theme/colors and make recommendations on design.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs?

Just ask! Many recipes can be modified to eliminate certain ingredients such as milk. We recommend that people with food allergies do not eat The Swirl Cakes products because it is not a certified allergy free facility, even if the actual product does not contain the specified allergen. All ingredients are made side-by-side using shared equipment.

Do The Swirl Cakes products need to be refrigerated?

None of the products we produce need to be refrigerated. We use all shelf stable products and processes. Our made from scratch cream cheese frosting has been tested by NC State University’s Department of Food, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition Sciences. It is safe to keep unrefrigerated in the few days from production to consumption. Cakes and frostings are made with real ingredients like butter, so they do need to be kept cool (at room temperature of 72 degrees or below) and out of direct sunlight for best results.
